Is there a reason for running Tyk as root?

It seems that the installation instructions all seem to end up with Tyk running as root. That seems to be a violation of the least privilege principle. Is there a specific reason Tyk requires running as root?

Hi @brentmoore, welcome to the community.

I think the reason is based on privileged ports. You may want to run Tyk on any of the special ports that are below 1024 (e.g. 80 or 443).

You can, if you choose to maintain a non-privileged port for Tyk, as long as you change the ownership of everything under /opt/tky-gateway.

Hope this answers your question.
